Dupont Ave. to Blaisdell Ave. Construction

The second phase of construction for this project is scheduled to begin the first week of April 2008. Construction operations will begin on the south side of Lake Street just east of Bryant Avenue and go to just east of Harriet Avenue. Work to be completed includes pavement removal, grading, sidewalk removal and replacement, installing curb and gutter, storm sewer, lighting and signal systems and bituminous paving. CenterPoint Energy will replace the existing gas main in Lake Street.

It is anticipated that the Contractor will begin working on Lake Street from Harriet Avenue east to Blaisdell Avenue by the middle of May. There will some time when the Contractor will be working form Bryant Avenue to Blaisdell Avenue.

The north side of Lake Street from Bryant Avenue to Blaisdell Avenue will be reconstructed when the south side is completed.

One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained throughout the reconstruction of Lake Street.

Lake Street buses in the construction area have been  detoured to 31st Street.

Project officials emphasize that access to businesses, alleys and adjacent streets will be maintained.

Building owners are urged to contact Arvella Greenway of the City of Minneapolis at 612-673-5899 if they have any questions or know their building’s roof drain system needs to be modified.

Concerns with your basement: areaways back to top

Property owners should determine whether their basement extends under the sidewalk on Lake Street. If it does, they may be responsible for removing or modifying this "areaway" to accommodate construction.

Since an areaway is part of the building it serves, it is the building owner’s responsibility to make sure it is structurally sound and can be altered to allow sidewalk construction or it is abandoned. If your building has an areaway, or you believe it might, please contact Jenifer Loritz of the City of Minneapolis at 612-673-3625. Areaway Fact Sheet (PDF) »
