Dupont Avenue to Blaisdell Avenue
This segment includes the Carag, Lowry Hill East, Lyndale, and Whittier neighborhoods.
Planning
Planning to determine the road and streetscape design between Dupont and Blaisdell Avenues South has been underway since the summer of 2004 and culminated in 2006. As a result of this planning process, the segment of Lyndale Avenue South between West 29th and West 31st Streets was included in the project to develop the preferred intersection configuration at Lake Street. As with the other segments (5th Avenue South to Hiawatha Avenue and Hiawatha Avenue to West River Parkway), it is the first major construction to occur on Lake Street in 50 years.
Business owners and residents attended a series of meetings that resulted in a recommendation for Lake Street to continue to have two traffic lanes in each direction with parking bays and no turn lane provisions (or center medians). Also, a left turn lane should be provided on Lyndale Avenue at Lake Street. more »
Construction
The second phase of construction for this project is scheduled to begin the first week of April 2008. Construction operations will begin on the south side of Lake Street just east of Bryant Avenue and go to just east of Harriet Avenue. Work to be completed includes pavement removal, grading, sidewalk removal and replacement, installing curb and gutter, storm sewer, lighting and signal systems and bituminous paving. CenterPoint Energy will replace the existing gas main in Lake Street. more »
