Lake Street Planning
The Future of Lake Street
Planning for the reconstruction of Lake Street has been underway for several years. Over four years of Community Participation have been part of the planning process. The main forum for community participation has been the Project Advisory Committee (PAC). The PAC consists of 30 neighborhood, business and community development organizations, city council wards and members of the design team. This committee has met monthly since January 2003 to provide input on various aspects of the roadway construction as well as the streetscape elements. Subcommittees were formed to concentrate on the individual segments of Lake Street and the types of streetscape and special assessments associated with those elements selected for the streetscape.
Road and streetscape improvements have laid the groundwork for impressive economic revitalization in older urban corridors throughout the Twin Cities area. Lake Street has strong potential to revitalize its commercial base. more »

Dupont to Blaisdell Avenue South
Planning to determine the road and streetscape design between Dupont and Blaisdell Avenues South has been underway since the summer of 2004 and culminated in 2006. As a result of this planning process, the segment of Lyndale Avenue South between West 29th and West 31st Streets was included in the project to develop the preferred intersection configuration at Lake Street. As with the other segments (5th Avenue South to Hiawatha Avenue and Hiawatha Avenue to West River Parkway), it is the first major construction to occur on Lake Street in 50 years.
Business owners and residents attended a series of meetings that resulted in a recommendation for Lake Street to continue to have two traffic lanes in each direction with parking bays and no turn lane provisions (or center medians). Also, a left turn lane should be provided on Lyndale Avenue at Lake Street.
