Lake Street in Minneapolis is undergoing its first major reconstruction in 50 years. The segment between Dupont Avenue South and the Mississippi River is being rebuilt and will emerge in 2008 with a new roadway, sidewalks and streetscape to support business activities and livability in the area.

Construction Wraps Up – Hiawatha Avenue to West River Parkway back to top
Construction will resume in April 2008 in the 12-block segment between 36th Avenue South and West River Parkway. Lake Street is opened to four lanes of traffic from 27th Avenue east to West River Parkway. All major roadway work is completed except for the placement of two inches of bituminous wearing course. The contractor will continue to work on installing trees, streetscape amenities, street lights, and traffic signals. More Information »
New Bus Detours back to top
Starting in April 2008, buses will be detoured from Lake Street one block south to 31st Street between Bryant Avenue South and Nicollet Avenue South during the 2008 construction season. Construction Continues – Dupont Avenue to Blaisdell Avenue back to top
The second phase of construction for this project is scheduled to begin the first week of April 2008. Construction operations will begin on the south side of Lake Street just east of Bryant Avenue and go to just east of Harriet Avenue. Work to be completed includes pavement removal, grading, sidewalk removal and replacement, installing curb and gutter, storm sewer, lighting and signal systems and bituminous paving.
